"Resolutions"

Past/Future Articles

As another year comes to a close, and we approach the beginning of the new year, the popular thought of “resolutions” comes to mind.  Just as we begin to piece together the resolves for the coming year, the ones we made this time last year which failed to materialize quickly come to mind.
The diet which didn’t last past the next family get together, will most certainly be tried again.  Those pounds which we were determined to lose, but were still visible at our last look in the mirror, will, no doubt, be a target again.  That “saving for a rainy day” which lasted exactly until the time for that vacation trip will most likely be a top priority for some again.  And on the story goes.
But what about the “resolve” we made when we obeyed the Gospel and were baptized into Christ?  The commitment we made to serve Him, and to honor and obey Him?  Has it gone the way of our so-called “New Year’s Resolutions?”
James said, “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds.”  James 1:25.
John 9:4, Jesus said, “I must work the works of him that sent me while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.”
There are numerous opportunities for us to work in the church.  None of us can do everything, but each of us can do something.  One area that is suffering greatly from lack of participation is the Church Activities Group.  The sick, elderly, widows, orphans, those in need, etc., offer a tremendous opportunity for us to serve the master, and our fellow man.
So, as we enter into the New Year, why not resolve to be a part of the work of the church to help it grow and flourish?
