When You Sin 11/05/00 Past/Future Articles |

A housewife sent her best tablecloth and two matchin napkins to the laundry. Whe she picked them up, they were badly faded. When she complained at the front counter, the clerk said she did not know what to do about the mistake, but suggested that she bring in the remaining napkins and they would be happy to fade them to match the others.
That was not the answer the housewife was expecting, but it is the answer that too often is given in the realms of morals. The world will gladly "fade" your moral concepts in some areas. Then, if you're not careful, will suggest that you not worry about that, but simply go ahead and fade the total of your morality. The world does not turn out bright, white laundry. It always comes back somewhere between dull gray and downright black. You can count on it never suggesting that real correction be made.
What is frightening is that Christians too often listen to the advice that comes from ungodly sources ... and follow it. Rather than finding genuine repentance and change, we are tempted to go ahead and allow corruption to grow in our lives. When you sin, repent and renew your life. Don't let sin take over and corrupt all of your life.
Let's heed the words of Paul in Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
