Let’s look at God’s Word and see what the Bible says, “He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool” (Proverbs 10:18). In Psalm 101:5 we read “Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.” If we are not very careful slander will keep us out of Heaven. Slander is an awful sin. The Lord expects us so to live that all may see our good works and glorify our Father who is in Heaven (Matt. 5;16). We must practice pure religion (James 1:27) and slander is not part of pure religion.
Christian people should be careful about repeating something they have heard about others. How many times have you heard “it is reported”, “they say”, and the like? Be careful what we repeat, it could hurt some innocent person. When one comes to you with an evil report about another brother in Christ, ask for proof from two or more trustworthy witnesses. This is the law of both the Old and New Testaments.
We must live in such a manner as to advance the cause of Christ and let Christ be seen in us. There is enough heartache in the world without adding the sin of slander.
Hope to see you Sunday.
