THE UNIVERSAL PRAYER

Past/Future Articles

So far today, God, I’ve done all right.  I haven’t gossiped.  I haven’t lost my tempter.  I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, or self-centered.  I’m really glad about that.  But in a few minutes, God, I’m going to need a lot of help… because in a few minutes...I’m going to get out of bed! (copied).

Often times, as we go from day to day, it’s easy to take for granted the giver of our peace and comfort.  When things seem to be going just right for us, it’s easy to be distracted by the beauties and pleasures of the world about us.  But when real problems arise, be they health, material, or otherwise, we are then jolted back to reality and remember to petition our true source of strength and comfort.

The Psalmist said in Psalms 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”  In Heb. 4:16, the writer says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

It’s true that when problems arise and difficulties come, God is always there for us.  But we as Christians must remember that our need of God the Father is not just when problems come our way and the burdens of life get hard to bear.  The phrase on our lips and the song in our hearts should always be...I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR!
