“Tenth of all,” said Abraham (Genesis 14:20).
“I will give a tenth,” vowed Jacob (Genesis 28:20-22).
In his second epistle to the Corinthians Paul, the Apostle, speaks much of the duty of charity. Reading it carefully we realize that charity, like love, comes from the heart. This is something that many Christians need to understand. We have a tendency to think of charity as money. We give to the church, to worthwhile organizations and think we are charitable. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. Jesus, our great example, gave His life. Charity is given and as Paul points out, it is not so much what we give as the purpose that it is given within our heart. Is our giving regular, cheerful, purposed, proportionate, sacrificial? It must be so to please God. Let us examine our giving. Are we liberal to God?
