"Some Reasons Why We Should Study The Bible"

God has commanded that we should do it.  “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of God” (2 Timothy 2:15).  “Let speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Col. 4:6).  “But sanctify the Lord in your hearts: and be ready to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15).
Because we believe the Bible to be what it claims for itself, namely, the inspired word of God containing the revelation of His will to man, it should be studied more carefully and prayerfully than any other thing that can occupy our attention.  The Bible is the only safe instruction of the way to Heaven.  It is the only sure guide through this confused world.  Too many give more time and thoughts to the reading of the daily news than to a study of God’s word.
A number of good things happen to us as we study God’s word.  It gives us light for the next step.  “Thy word is a light unto my feet, and a light unto my path".  Bible study is essential to growth (I Peter 2:2).  We need to study the Bible in order to be able to teach others (Hebrews 5:12-14).  By studying God’s word, it will make our faith stronger.  “So faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).  If faith cometh by hearing the word of God, then faith continues to grow as it continues to feed upon the word of God.
God wants us to become full grown in Christ (Ephesians 4:13-16) and more like His son (2 Cor. 3:18).
