"Is it right or wrong for a Christian to dance, go to mixed swimming, wear shorts, drink or smoke?"

Sooner or later, every preacher, elder, and Bible class teacher will be asked questions like the above.  Then when the answer is given, the person who asked the question will not accept it.  They usually cast the answer aside by saying, "Oh well, that's just your opinion; and after all, my opinion is just as good as yours."

For the Christian who really wants to find the answer to these questions, and many others that may be bothering him or her, we offer the following principles from God's word as guidelines for answering these questions.

Take note of the question, or things you are in doubt about, and then prayerfully and thoughtfully apply one by one each of these principles.  Remember, you must be honest with yourself, and willing to accept your conclusions.

1.    Am I commanded Not to do it?    James 4:17.
2.    Can I do it for the glory of God?    I Corinthians 10:31, 6:19.
3.    Can I do it in the name of the Lord?    Colossians 3:17.
4.    Is it of the world?    I John 15-17.
5.    Would Jesus do it?    I Peter 2:21.
6.    Does it have the appearance of evil?    I Thessalonians 5:22.
7.    Is it a weight?    Hebrews 12:1.
8.    Can I do it when I remember the Holy Spirit dwells in me?    Romans 8:11,
       I Corinthians 6:19-20.
9.    Is it an example of a believer?    I Timothy 4:12.
10.  Is it a stumbling block?    I Corinthians 8:9, Romans 14:13, 21.
11.  Would you want your children to do it?    Ephesians 6:4, Proverbs 22:6.
12.  When Jesus returns, would you like to be found doing it or wearing it?
        Revelation 2:10, I John 2:28, I Thessalonians 5:2.
13.  Is there any doubt in your mind?    Romans 14:23.
14.  Will it make me a better Christian?    II Peter 1:5-8.
15.  Will it help lead others ot Christ?    Mark 16:15-16, 8:36-38.

What is your conclusion?  According to the Bible, is it right or wrong?
